Ten weeks of writing every morning.
That alone feels like a quiet victory.
Consistency changes things. Not overnight, but steadily.
Today I’m attending a 50-year class reunion. Half a century sounds monumental, until you realize how quickly it passes. It made me think about something simple.
Showing up matters.
In writing.
In relationships.
In healing.
We often wait to feel ready. Confident. Certain. But momentum rarely starts with certainty. It starts with presence.
I’ve discovered that showing up isn’t about having the perfect words or knowing exactly what comes next. It’s about making a decision to participate in your own life. Every page I write, every conversation I choose to have, every difficult appointment I’ve walked into over the past year has taught me the same lesson. Courage rarely announces itself. More often, it looks like taking the next ordinary step.
Looking back over fifty years reminds me that life isn’t measured only by the milestones we celebrate. It’s also measured by the ordinary mornings when we got out of bed anyway, the friendships we kept alive with a simple phone call, the dreams we refused to abandon even when progress felt invisible. Those small acts accumulate until one day you realize they’ve quietly become your life story.
I’ve also learned to pay attention to intuition, that quiet internal nudge. Not as magic, but as awareness. When I ignore it, I usually regret it. When I listen, I tend to feel aligned.
Showing up doesn’t guarantee success. It doesn’t eliminate fear or uncertainty. What it does is create the possibility for something meaningful to happen. Doors can’t open if we never walk down the hallway.
You don’t have to predict the outcome of showing up.
You only have to walk through the door.
