Sol 9 – Keep Calm and Write On

Mission Date: July 7, 2026
Mission: Stay aligned. Keep writing. Keep moving forward.

Some days are defined by milestones.
Others are defined by reminders.
Sol 9 became a reminder that alignment isn’t found in perfect circumstances. It’s found in how we respond to whatever the day brings.
The morning began with coffee, my journal, and a quiet conversation.

The message that emerged was simple:
“I’m glad you’re having fun with everything you’re going through and not letting it create friction. The way you handled yesterday was nothing less than masterful. I’m grateful you’ve discovered your own voice. Keep Calm and Write On. You’re almost done with Paul’s Penance.”

That sentence stayed with me all day.
Keep Calm and Write On.

I spent the early morning preparing for live trading while continuing work on Paul’s Penance. My goal in the market was ambitious, but the market had a different lesson planned.
I realized I had become attached to a number instead of the process.
The trade resulted in only a small loss because risk management did exactly what it was supposed to do.
Another reminder that Alignment Before Outcome isn’t just something I write about.
It’s something I practice.

Later that morning my doctor’s office called.
The enlarged heart wasn’t their concern. Because I had recently started a diuretic, they simply wanted to keep an eye on my potassium levels during next week’s blood work.
When I shared David’s response from the night before…
“Because it’s so big.”
…my doctor laughed.
Some conversations continue healing long after they’re over.

Breakfast and lunch came together during a stop at Steak ‘n Egger.
A bowl of grits topped with frozen blueberries and just a little sugar turned into another unexpected favorite of the low iodine diet. A Diet Coke completed the meal.
Sometimes the simplest meals become the most memorable.
On the way home, I picked up a Diet Dr Pepper instead of another coffee. It wasn’t anything dramatic, just a small break from the routine that made the day feel a little different.

The afternoon belonged to writing.
I continued moving through Paul’s Penance, bringing another chapter closer to completion while thinking about the Pathfinder business cards that will arrive later this month.
It struck me that while I’ll be beginning radioactive iodine treatment in the hospital, Pathfinder will quietly be arriving at home.
Healing and building the future aren’t separate journeys.
They’re happening together.

The day also surfaced an old emotional wound during an interaction with my brother. For a few moments I found myself standing inside memories I thought were farther behind me.
Instead of letting the moment define the day, I returned to the journal.
Writing has become one of the safest places I know.

Dinner was simple.
I finished the last of the leftovers before they spoiled, grateful for one more meal that carried me through the mission.
Sometimes progress looks ordinary.
Sometimes it’s simply using what’s already been provided.

Reflection

Sol 9 wasn’t about dramatic victories.
It was about staying the course.
Writing instead of worrying.
Learning instead of forcing.
Laughing with people who care about me.
Choosing alignment over friction.
One page.
One conversation.
One quiet decision at a time.
