Your Actions Speak for You - TCC Episode 36actions-words

Today's Episode:

  • Rule #6 of A Better Way to Live
  • Actions Speak Louder than Words
  • 2015 Goals
  • What Are Some Actions You Can Do
  • Go the Extra Mile

 Rule #6

Let your actions always speak for you, but be forever on guard against the terrible traps of false pride and conceit that can halt your progress. The next time you are tempted to boast, just place your fist in a full pail of water, and when you remove it, the hole remaining will give you a correct measure of your importance.
~ Og Mandino, Author and Motivational Speaker

Picture placing your fist into a pail of water. Take it out. Wow, no hole. If that measures our importance, there is no hole. Does it we we have no importance, no to me it means that your words carry no weight but your actions do. Your actions speak volumes!

Actions Speak Louder than Words

It's a new year! Most people have made resolutions. Let your actions speak for you by making your dreams come true.

I had to stop talking and start doing. How could I ask someone to do something I wasn't willing to do or have done myself. I like to lead by example. I will be the best example I can be.

My goals for 2015:

  1. Continue to take off weight and weigh 220 pounds by June 12, 2015
    • Make a Decision
    • Create that mental image of your desired weight
    • 30 Day Coffee Challenge
    • Eat Healthy
  2. Build my International Gourmet Coffee Company and become a coffee millionaire by June 30, 2015
  3. Finish my dissertation and graduate with my Ph.D. by July 2015

In order to make 2015 my year! To have the most amazing life, I asked myself, "What actions can I do that I didn't do in 2014?" Following are some action that I will work on in 2015:

  • Show my company to 400 people in the next 180 days
  • Sample coffee to 10 people a day
  • Write more than once a week other than my Podcast show notes
  • Write at least 15 minutes a day
  • Complete my book projects
  • Finish my dissertation

What Are Some Actions You Can Do

  1. Create some goals and dreams
  2. Make a Decision
  3. Write them down and picture it in your mind
  4. Take action everyday to achieve your goals and dreams
  5. Create an accountability system

Go the Extra Mile

Less than 40 days to help keep the St. Martin De Porres House of Hope going into the future.

My goal is to sell 10,000 boxes of coffee in January to help raise most of if not all the $40,000 needed to keep their doors open. Buy 3 or 4 boxes at WantMyCoffee.com. 50% of all profits will be donated to the St. Martin De Porres House of Hope.

Don't Look Back - TCC Episode 33dont_quit

Whenever you make a mistake or get knocked down by life, don't look back at it too long. Mistakes are life's way of teaching you. Your capacity for occasional blunders is inseparable from your capacity to reach your goals. No one wins them all, and your failures, when they happen, are just part of your growth. Shake off your blunders. How will you know your limits without an occasional failure? Never quit. Your turn will come.

~ Og Mandino, Author and Motivational Speaker

“The past does not equal The future. Because you failed yesterday; or all day today, or a moment ago, or for the last six months; the last 16 years, or the last fifty years of life doesn’t mean anything…All that matters is what are you going to do, Right Now.”

- Anthony Robbins, American self-help writer and professional speaker.

 Today's Episode:

  • Your Past Doesn't Equal Your Future
  • Don't Look Back

Your Past Doesn't Equal Your Future

Mandino (1990) suggested, rule 3 for a better way to live, that when you make a mistake or life knocks you down, don't dwell on it too long. Robbins (1991) suggested your past doesn't need to equal your future. Thomas Edison found 9,999 ways not to make a lightbulb.

I've made a few mistakes along the way. There are lessons to be learned. Sometimes I'll make the same mistake again and again, means I need to try something different. There are somethings you can do to help you not to dwell on past mistakes.

Don't Look Back

  • Picture your dreams: Create a vision board, write down your goals and dreams, read them everyday, create affirmations
  • Don't Quit: Just keep showing up. Persistence pays.

Count Your Blessings: TCC Episode 30count your blessings

Once you realize how valuable you are and how much you have going for you, the smiles will return, the sun will break out, the music will play and you will finally be able to move forward toward the life that God intended for you with grace, strength, courage and confidence.
~ Og Mandino, Author and Motivational Speaker

  • Counting Your Blessings
  • List Your Blessings
  • Happy and Grateful Affirmations

Counting Your Blessings

Count your blessings. You are one of a kind. There's no one in the world like you. You are amazing.
Richard Simmons, Fitness Guru and Motivational Speaker

Dr. Norman Vincent Peale tells a story about a man who lost everything. Had that man sit down and started listing off the things he did have. He listed things like his health, loving wife, good kids, a brain to think with, etc...

I've been there and may be you have too. I realized that I'm in a recession when my neighbor loses his/her job. It's a depression is when it happened to you. Instead of dwelling on those things you lost, start listing what you do have and be grateful for them. Life is too short!

List Your Blessings

  • Faith - I still have a God that loves me even though I forget to tell him/her
  • Family - I have a good wife mother to my great son, my mother is still with us, my brothers, and my Organo Gold family
  • Friends - I have friends who support me
  • Fitness - I've lost 86 pounds. I can still speak, hear and see. I can move around easily. I still have a few hairs on my head.
  • Finances - I will be a coffee millionaire. I have a roof over my head. My car gets me to where I need to be.

Happy and Grateful Affirmations

In the movie, The Secret, I heard the statement I am happy and grateful now that... and you fill in the blank. These are affirmations that you can use to take you to your hopes and dreams.

I am happy and grateful now that I have a loving family that supports me.

I am happy and grateful now that I am a Diamond in Organo Gold living the number one lifestyle in the World.

I am happy and grateful now that I have the freedom to help and serve other people everywhere.

  • 17 Rules for a Better Way of Life

A Better Way to Live Revisited

Jim Rohn said the same wind blows on us all and the difference is how we set the sails to take us to  our hopes and dreams. I decided to draw a line in the sand and set sails towards happiness, health, and wealth. My mission is to help other people everywhere and if I can help you realize some of your dreams then mission accomplished.

In my blog post, Better Way To Live, I mention a book I pulled off the shelf A Better Way to Live by Og Mandino. I started reading it and decided that it was time to apply the principles in this book. I will blog about each rule and discuss them over the next several weeks.

Mr. Mandino was talking right to me. He invited me into his writing sanctuary and gave me a personal tour. I have worked to create a similar work space because it sounded warm and inspiring. He also talked about his background where I found a few similarities especially finding out the same winds had blown on his life. Then he turned and told me his solutions.

Mr. Mandino's solution have become my goal; to take my own life and apply the rules found in the book. Mandino (1990) gave us the 17 Rules for a Better Way of Life and the descriptions for each.

17 Rules for a Better Way to Live by Og Mandino

  1. Count your blessings. Once you realize how valuable you are and how much you have going for you, the smiles will return, the sun will break out, the music will play and you will finally be able to move forward toward the life that God intended for you...with grace, strength, courage and confidence.
  2. Today, and every day, deliver more than you are getting paid to do. The victory of success will be half won when you learn the secret of putting out more than is expected in all that you do. Make yourself so valuable in your work that eventually you will become indispensable. Exercise your privilege to go the extra miles, and enjoy all the rewards you receive. You deserve them!
  4. Always reward your long hours of labor and toil in the very best way, surrounded by your family. Nurture their love carefully, remembering that your children need models, not critics, and your own progress will hasten when you constantly strive to present your best side to your children. And even if you have failed at all else in the eyes of the world, if you have a loving family, you are a success.
  5. Build this day on a foundation of pleasant thoughts. Never fret at any imperfections that you fear may impede your progress. Remind yourself, as often as necessary, that you are a creature of God and have the power to achieve any dream by lifting up your thoughts. You can fly when you decide that you can. Never consider defeat again. Let the vision in your heart be in your life's blueprint. Smile!
  6. Let your actions always speak for you, but be forever on guard against the terrible traps of false pride and conceit that can halt your progress. The next time you are tempted to boast, just place your fist in a full pail of water, and when you remove it, the hole remaining will give you a correct measure of your importance.
  7. Each day is a special gift from God, and while life may not always be fair, you must never allow the pains, hurdles, and handicaps of the moment to poison your attitude and plans for yourself and your future. You can never win when you wear the ugly cloak of self-pity, and the sour sound of whining will certainly frighten away any opportunity for success. Never again. There is a better way.
  8. Never again clutter your days or nights with so many menial and unimportant things that you have no time to accept a real challenge when it comes along. This applies to play as well as work. A day merely survived is no cause for celebration. You are not here to fritter away your precious hours when you have the ability to accomplish so much by making a slight change in your routine. No more busywork. No more hiding from success. Leave time, leave space, to grow. Now. Now! Not tomorrow!
  9. Live this day as if it will be your last. Remember that you will only find "tomorrow" on the calendars of fools. Forget yesterday's defeats, and ignore the problems of tomorrow. This is it. Doomsday. All you have. Make it the best day of your year. The saddest words you can ever utter are, "If I had my life to live over again..." Take the baton, now. Run with it! This is your day!
  10. Beginning today, treat everyone you meet, friend or foe, loved one or stranger, as if they were going to be dead at midnight. Extend to each person, no matter how trivial the contact, all the care and kindness and understanding and love that you can muster, and do it with no thought of any reward. Your life will never be the same again.
  11. Laugh at yourself and at life. Not in the spirit of derision or whining self-pity, but as a remedy, a miracle drug, that will ease your pain, cure your depression, and help you to put in perspective that seemingly terrible defeat of the moment. Banish tension and concern and worry with laughter at your predicaments, thus freeing your mind to think clearly toward the solution that is certain to come. Never take yourself too seriously.
  12. Never neglect the little things. Never skimp on that extra effort, that additional few minutes, that soft word of praise or thanks, that delivery of the very best that you can do. It does not matter what others think, it is of prime importance, however, what you think about you. You can never do your best, which should always be your trademark, if you are cutting corners and shirking responsibilities. You are special. Act it. Never neglect the little things.
  13. Welcome every morning with a smile. Look on the new day as another special gift from your Creator, another golden opportunity to complete what you were unable to finish yesterday. Be a selfstarter. Let your first hour set the theme of success and positive action that is certain to echo through your entire day. Today will never happen again. Don't waste it with a false start or no start at all. You were not born to fail.
  14. You will achieve your grand dream, a day at a time, so set goals for each day-not long and difficult projects, but chores that will take you, step by step, toward your rainbow. Write them down, if you must, but limit your list so that you won't have to drag today's undone matters into tomorrow. Remember that you cannot build your pyramid in twenty-four hours. Be patient. Never allow your day to become so cluttered that you neglect your most important goal-to do the best you can, enjoy this day and rest satisfied with what you have accomplished.
  15. Never allow anyone to rain on your parade and thus cast a pall of gloom and defeat on the entire day. Remember that no talent, no self-denial, no brains, no character, are required to set up in the faultfinding business. Nothing external can have any power over you unless you permit it. Your time is too precious to be sacrificed in wasted days combating the menial forces of hate, jealousy and envy. Guard your fragile life carefully. Only God can shape a flower, but any foolish child can pull it to pieces.
  16. Search for the seed of good in every adversity. Master that principle and you will own a precious shield that will guard you well through all the darkest valleys you must traverse. Stars may be seen from the bottom of a deep well, when they cannot be discerned from the mountaintop. So will you learn things in adversity that you would never have discovered without trouble? There is always a seed of good. Find it and prosper.
  17. Realize that true happiness lies within you. Waste no time and effort searching for peace and contentment and joy in the world outside. Remember that there is no happiness in having or in getting, but only in giving. Reach out. Share. Smile. Hug. Happiness is a perfume you cannot pour on others without getting a few drops on yourself.

Better Way to Live

I walked to my bookshelves in my office looking for something to read. Since I have been focused on personal development, I found three books by Og Mandino: A Better Way to LiveThe Greatest Salesman in the World, and The Choice. I pulled all three off the shelf and tucked them into my book bag. One day I head out for a weekly coffee meeting to help my business.

The presenter suggested reading A Better Way to Live: Og Mandino's Own Personal Story of Success Featuring 17 Rules to Live By  and talked about each of the 17 Rules to Live By.

I will be discussing each rule on The Coffee Couch and as blog posts over the next few months. My goal is to take my own life and apply the rules found in the book. Mandino (1990) gave us the 17 Rules for a Better Way of Life and the descriptions for each. Each week I will talk about how I applied these rules.

HOPE: TCC Episode 27

Today's Episode:

  • HOPE (Helping Other People Everywhere)
  • How You Can Help Others

HOPE (Helping Other People Everywhere)

I always wanted to help people. At first I wanted to be a paramedic. Then I thought I'd like to be a doctor. I never did either, YET. At least not a medical doctor.

I ended up in Nursing after my father passed. As a result of a class I took, I became a certified hypnotist. I'm working on my Ph.D. to make a difference in adult education. I will be Doctor Dan.

This podcast has helped my in more ways then one. I get to help people in a way I never thought about. I decided what I want to do when I grow up... Be a Coach. Now I hope to help you.

My Mission:

  • Godliness: Living to serve others. Godliness isolates negativity.
  • Help others: Helping others has helped me take the focus off my problems. By helping you reach your hopes and dreams, I'll eventually reach my hopes and dreams.

How You Can Help Others

  1. Ask what you can do to help: Straight out ask "what can I do?"
  2. Smile: Acknowledge others
  3. Lend an ear: Just listening to someone else can make a difference
  4. Send a card or gift: Just let someone know you are thinking of them. Reach out and touch someone.
  5. Volunteer: Volunteer in your community, for an organization, or a hospital (which is how I met my wife 35 years ago)
  6. Donate: Give money to your favorite cause.
  7. Stop and help a stranger: Stop and help someone stranded on the side of the road.

How to Resist Temptation: TCC Episode 26resisttemptation

Today's Episode:

  • The Temptation
  • How to Resist Temptation

The Temptation

I love my coffee business and what it has done for  me physically and financially. This last weekend my buddy, while helping his coffee business, kept referring to other network marketing programs he was involved in. After the event was over he told me about his success at losing 19 pounds over the past few months and made me one of his shakes to try.

I said, "I've lost 83 pounds with my coffee and capsules (danhansen.com/13) since the beginning of June 2014", which is very significant since I don't work out or starve myself. I realized I was very happy and grateful for my coffee company and the benefits it provides me and my family. My buddy was trying to get me to be a customer for a product that I have tried in the past without the success I'm having now.

Shakes are good, they provide nutrients and stuff, but I forget to make one as I'm running out of the house with my coffee. I have to ask why should I buy another shake product when I have several in my house that have probably expired like my stationary clothes hanger.

I probably should have said no but he said to get his coffee in, he adds it to the shake. I thought, "how interesting make me one of those". I tried it both ways and loved the one with the coffee. Gee! it tasted like my mocha only cold with a teaspoon of peanut butter. I feel a new coffee recipe coming on, peanut butter mocha.

How to Resist Temptation

  1. Just say NO - For some that could be difficult especially if you work real hard to help others. Clear (2014) suggested that learning to say no should be a developed skill to help you in any endeavor. I have to agree.
  2. Remember Your Goals and Dreams - Ask yourself will this take me away from or toward my goals and dreams
  3. Who are you listening, What are you reading - if you hang around and listen to people who are living your dream, you'll more then likely succeed especially if you imitate them and do what they do. Hill (1937) suggested that you should have a mastermind alliance and surround yourself with people who will help you reach your goals and dreams.

5 Ways to Tune Into Abundance: TCC Episode 17abundance

This Episode

  • What is Abundance
  • Dreams and Goals
  • 5 Ways to Tune Into Abundance

What is Abundance?

Abundance is not something we acquire. It is something we tune into.

Abundance (2014) a large amount of something. That something could be anything from money to possessions, to love, or even happiness.

The movie, The Secret, helped me understand the Law of Attraction and creating abundance.

Dreams or Goals

I want to do is make a difference in the world and let people know I was here. I have a financial goal to reach a level of income of over $1,000,000 a year in Organo Gold as a Diamond, called the number one lifestyle in the world. I want to lose weight as well. I see what that looks like.

What does that look like?

  • I see myself getting knighted
  • I see myself with the sword and shield
  • I have a picture of a million dollar bill so I can see it everyday
  • I see myself sitting in the front with the other Diamonds
  • I see myself sitting on an airplane without a seatbelt extension

Why do I want to do it?

  • To improve my mothers living conditions
  • Own my own lighthouse
  • Change my address I like Maine and Hawaii
  • Freedom to travel all around the world
  • Financial freedom and time to finish my dissertation and do more research
  • Financial freedom and time to write books and screenplays that entertain and inspire.

What will I gain?

  • Accomplishing something greater than myself
  • Become Dr. Dan by completing my Ph.D.
  • Become an author and screenwriter, who writes books and movies that entertain and inspire
  • Saving kids’ lives by supporting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals through Extra Life at http://danhansen.com/extralife
  • Helping Native Americans decrease diabetes with a healthier coffee

5 Ways to Tune Into Abundance

  1. Think Big - Write down your dreams and goals
  2. See Big - Picture it in your minds eye or theater of the mind
  3. Speak Big - Say it outloud in affirmations or I'm happy and grateful statements
  4. Believe Big - Start putting big emotion or feeling behind what you are saying
  5. Doing Big - Do the activity that will get you where you want to go.

The Wall

What is the wall?

  • In a house it divides rooms.
  • In your yard it could provide privacy by blocking a view or keeping people out.
  • In this case, it's a barrier (2014) an obstacle, imagined or real, that keeps people or things apart, prevents communication, or slows progress.

The wall to me is the third definition. I had this habit of sabotaging myself. I'd come up to the finish line and pull a hamstring, trip over my shoelaces, or just plain stop.

I got so stuck on the how-to that I forgot to get to basics, the want-to. I had to ask better questions. How can I turn this around? What can I do to get over this wall?

Getting Over The Wall

These are some of the steps I took to get over the wall

  • Ask Better Questions: I had to ask better questions to myself like "How can I turn this around?" or "How do I improve this or that?"
  • Take Action: Schwartz (1987) suggested to overcome obstacles you must take action
  • Baby Steps: Kiyosaki (2000) suggested that you take baby steps
  • Picture It: Picture in your mind overcoming the obstacle

Epiphany

Epiphany (2014) is a moment in which you suddenly see or understand something in a new or very clear way. Well today I had one. I was stressing about finances and getting things done that I missed the mark.

This morning I was listening to Robert T. Kiyosaki’s Rich Dad Poor Dad: What The Rich Teach Their Kids About Money That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not! I realized that I got in the trap of negative thinking when helping my team. I realized that we were partners in an organization and not employees. I had to let go of the 40/40/40 plan of a traditional job. That was tough because I have been living it for more than half my life. Sorry guys!!!
