I have way too many book and screenwriting projects started and not finished. I’m also working on my dissertation. The dissertation was the primary reason for writing this book. I want to help students like me get through the PhD program and the dissertation process. I’ll be looking at best practices, risks, risk mitigation, personal development, health, faith, and how I’m making it through the dissertation process.
I have never been the best student in traditional learning environments. It wasn’t until I went to DeVry University and Keller Graduate School that I realized that I excelled in courses that were hands-on. I always thought I had a learning disability. In high school I had counselors that suggested that I’d never get into college, especially after my ACT scores came back.
My ACT’s we dismal a whopping 13 and even worse the second time. The one thing I had going for me was my passion for technology and the way the mind worked; even though I didn’t see my first computer until my sophomore year in college. I got a minor in psychology and became a certified clinical hypnotherapist in 1988.
In 1991 I left my father-in-laws investment firm and opened my hypnosis and wellness center. Seven months later I lost that and was forced to go back to work in the real world. During that time I was also the first hypnotist that I knew to own a computer. I then went back to school in 1993 part-time at DeVry where I got my Bachelors in Computer Information Systems.
I received my Masters Degree in Network & Information Management focusing in e-Commerce from DeVry University. The focus of my studies were online collaboration, social networking and database management. I decided to get my doctorates degree after giving presentations on network protocols, kiosk design, wireless communications, and teleconferencing at King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi in Bangkok, Thailand. While there, I consulted with the university on a kiosk design to be used for processing government forms filled out by citizens faster from the various provinces.
This experience has changed my life. That is why I decided to write this book.
