Football or Reach My Goals

I finally fit in this jersey after 10 years. Staying fiercely focused helped.
I finally fit in this jersey after 10 years. Staying fiercely focused helped.

Today my football season officially begins. I'm a Die-Hard Bears Fan working on building a business, writing my dissertation, working on my Podcast and blog. I know watching the games on Sunday won't help me reach my goals. I really don't need the distraction.

I face a challenge of how to support my Bears and still work on what I need to do. With a little brainstorming and weight loss, I have an answer. I will dress in my Bears colors and work on my projects. I started with a Walter Payton Jersey I bought 10 years ago that I never wore because it was too tight. Then I went to make calls without success. May be they were watching the Bears... Hmmm.

I had to ask which is more important, football or reach my goals? I decided to stay focused this football season. Instead of getting my my comfy recliner, I worked on my many projects. I could always go back to watching later, however, I would rather watch from the VIP seats and bring friends with. In Episode 17, I talked about abundance and what it is I want to accomplish plus what that looks like.Little did I know there was something still holding me back. Something amazing happened, the Universe responded.

The Universe

I started the day kinda weird. There was definitely something holding me back. Thank goodness I'm a work in progress and, according to the Secret, I am the creator. Once I realized this and talked with my mentor, I turned it around. I even went so far as to write a check to myself for $1,000,000 to be cashed when I reach my destination.

the gardenThe Universe responds in many ways. Today, just before I wrote this, my son was putting ice in the basement freezer and a pile of my stuff crashed down on his head. Amongst that debris was a manuscript for a book I started in the 90s, on a manual typewriter, and a handwritten meditation with a sketched image to go with it. It looks like the Universe wants me to publish my first book and create the meditation audio for you.

Goals

Following are some of my goals to...

... Continue to take off 10 pounds a month until I reach 220 pounds

... Be an author who writes books and screenplays that entertain and inspire, RIGHT NOW

... Finish my dissertation and graduate with my Ph.D. by December 31, 2014

... Build a million dollar coffee business in 30 days

Wednesday Weigh-in - 9/3/2014Cornucopia

Wow! Another Wonderful Wednesday Weigh-in! I challenged myself last week by doing something different. I did a fruit fast to cleanse my body. It paid off. I lost 6.5 in the last week. When I was cleansing I felt sharp. My mind was more creative. I had more energy. As a result, I decided to start thinking about a lifestyle change.

After doing that body cleanse, however, I had meat for the first time this Labor Day! I found that I liked the taste but not the effects. The grease tasted nasty and is still sitting with me. Last night I tried Greek style Chicken breast (boneless and skinless). I feel a little sluggish and still taste the grease from Monday. Now I know why people become or are vegetarians.

This morning I got a lot of texts. I had more energy and felt great; now I felt like a slug. I was asked it you are what you eat. I said yes because I felt bloated like a cow, fat as a pig, and lethargic like a sloth. Now I'm looking at switching over to a more vegan lifestyle. I used to love meats. Now the thought of eating meats makes me nauseous.  I don't like it.

Today, I decided that it's back to fruits and salad to flush the yuck from my body. I look forward to next Wednesday's Weigh-in.

My Routine

I drink water and my health coffee. Then I take Organo Gold Capsules where I start the day with Grapeseed Extract and Mycelium great for arthritis and mental clarity. Midday, I take the Ganoderma capsules for overall health and body detox. Just before bed I take the Spore Powder. All I know is I get a better quality of sleep. Looking forward to Wednesday weigh in.

30 Day Coffee Challenge

keep-calm-and-take-the-30-day-coffee-challenge

I'm so proud of my weight loss experience. You can hear about it at danhansen.com/15 and the coffee that helped. As I mentioned in Episode 15 of The Coffee Couch Podcast, I noticed that my eating habits changed. I no longer crave breads and sweets.

dan_before_after_082114

This last week I decided to test my cravings by doing a fruit fast, to see if I could. Being a researcher, this was a golden opportunity to see if I missed other foods like meat. I'm an omnivore and love my meats bordering on carnivore. Tomorrow is Labor Day, here in the United States, and I know there will be brats, ribs and cakes. I'm sure I'll at least see a few salads, some fruit and at least chicken. I'm positive I'll have my coffee with me, probably lattes and mochas.

I just had to challenge everyone to give it a try. I never thought there was such a thing as a healthy cup of coffee. I was wrong. I used to drink 2 pots of coffee a day plus 2 extra large coffees from Dunkin Donuts. Now, I just drink Organo Gold.

The 30 Day Coffee Challenge

Drink one box of Organo Gold Gourmet Black Coffee, there are 30 individual servings per box. Drink only Organo Gold. Then contact me at http://danhansen.com/contact or dan@wantmycofee.com to let me know how you liked the taste and how did it make you feel.

Just Show Up

This last week was all about just showing up. You can up that number to 100% and apply it to anything from success to life. I decided to take my International Gourmet Coffee Business to the next level. I did this by getting up at 5 am to set up a coffee tasting station at the school that laid me off. It was the best thing to happen to me by getting into the business, developing the podcast, and focusing on my dissertation.

I was told no one would be there last Friday. One person asked if I would be there. Of course, I said yes. It was the best day ever. Not only did I sell some coffee & tea but also showed the coffee opportunity in Spanish. Way outside my comfort zone. With a little help from some school support staff and Organo Gold's success tools. I made a new friend and business partner.

It has also been said that "Showing up is half the battle." Just showing up can really make a difference. Same with this blog and podcast, as long as I persist and show up people will come.

30 Day Mental Fast

The 30 day mental fast came to a close yesterday and I didn't realize it. The fast freed up so much time and gave me so much drive that I didn't even post. I was having so much fun doing the coffee business, I forgot about the fast even though I was still doing it. I can hardly wait for Weigh In Wednesday. I have been challenging everyone on social media to take the 30 Day Coffee Challenge.

How I Lost Over 50 Pounds

Before 6/12/2014 and After 8/19/2014 – Those are the same shorts
Before 6/12/2014 and After 8/19/2014 - Holding the shorts that I wore in the before picture 🙂

Ever Since my last Podcast Episode this week, I've been getting questions on how I lost over 50 pounds. People then asked if I had changed my diet or eating habits. I answered Yes and No. It all started with Organo Gold not only the coffee but also the company.

With Organo Gold the first step is be a product of the product, which means use all the products. When i first tasted it my skin felt electrified. So basically I was feeling good. Another thing Organo Gold has done for me was to listen to personal development. In March 2014, on our way to the Organo Gold International Convention in San Antonio, my brother, Ray, and I listened to Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow Rich.  We came up with the idea and challenged each other to Think and Grow Thin.

I was diagnosed with diabetes with a A1C of 7.1 and weighed in at 380 pounds. The doctor said lose weight. I was so desperate that I even auditioned for The Biggest Loser, didn't get on. In march I was stuck at about 350 area and injured my knee. I was still drinking my coffee and occasionally taking the  Organo Gold Capsules. Then at the end of May at the Organo Gold VIP Red Carpet Event, I was able to hang with the people I wanted to be like. This sparked a hint of a vision. Then on the ride home something happened in my thinking. My wife did something that would have normally made me angry but I was able to channel that energy into the picture I had of a skinnier and more energetic me.

I just amped up my game by making sure I took my Organo Gold Capsules daily without fail.  I start the day with Grapeseed Extract with Ganoderma, definitely helped with my knee problem. I even texted a friend of mine who had the same injury to tell her I no longer had the pain even that started happening when I got more consistent. Then 3 Mycelium daily, which helped with mental clarity. Midday, I take the Ganoderma capsules for overall health and body detox. Just before bed I take the Spore Powder. All I know is I get a better quality of sleep and I find I don't crave the breads or the sweets. If I feel the need for something sweet, I drink an Organo Gold Mocha or Hot Chocolate. Now I looking forward to my Wednesday weigh-ins!

What really got my attention was when I weighed in this week and was in the 320's. I haven't seen the 320s in almost 15 years. So i even re recorded my podcast to share this

Wednesday Weigh-In: My Wall Was My Weight

Before 6/12/2014 and After 8/19/2014 holding shorts wore in the before :)
Before 6/12/2014 and After 8/19/2014 holding shorts wore in the before 🙂

I got so stuck on the how-to that I forgot to get to basics, the want-to. I had to ask better questions. How can I turn this around? What can I do to get over this wall?

I have been a yo-yo dieter. I have struggled with my weight since I was young. I was diagnosed with Morbid Obesity at 380 pounds. The last time I weighed 200 lbs I was 13. My wall was 340 pound mark.

Since I started using my coffee and taking the Organo Gold Capsules, part of my 30 day mental fast, I have shed just over 50 pounds. I found I no longer crave breads or desserts. I no longer have a taste for beer which is weird because I used to brew it. Now I'm weighing in at 328.8 as of this post.

The Wall

What is the wall?

  • In a house it divides rooms.
  • In your yard it could provide privacy by blocking a view or keeping people out.
  • In this case, it's a barrier (2014) an obstacle, imagined or real, that keeps people or things apart, prevents communication, or slows progress.

The wall to me is the third definition. I had this habit of sabotaging myself. I'd come up to the finish line and pull a hamstring, trip over my shoelaces, or just plain stop.

I got so stuck on the how-to that I forgot to get to basics, the want-to. I had to ask better questions. How can I turn this around? What can I do to get over this wall?

Getting Over The Wall

These are some of the steps I took to get over the wall

  • Ask Better Questions: I had to ask better questions to myself like "How can I turn this around?" or "How do I improve this or that?"
  • Take Action: Schwartz (1987) suggested to overcome obstacles you must take action
  • Baby Steps: Kiyosaki (2000) suggested that you take baby steps
  • Picture It: Picture in your mind overcoming the obstacle

Epiphany

Epiphany (2014) is a moment in which you suddenly see or understand something in a new or very clear way. Well today I had one. I was stressing about finances and getting things done that I missed the mark.

This morning I was listening to Robert T. Kiyosaki’s Rich Dad Poor Dad: What The Rich Teach Their Kids About Money That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not! I realized that I got in the trap of negative thinking when helping my team. I realized that we were partners in an organization and not employees. I had to let go of the 40/40/40 plan of a traditional job. That was tough because I have been living it for more than half my life. Sorry guys!!!

Letting Others Win

Letting others win is not always a good thing. I should clarify that. I should not let others beat me down. I let my wife and her friend defeat me. They asked me not to take about my business because it embarrassed them. I'm proud to say that I own an International Gourmet Coffee Business. I love talking about what I do. I still took the opportunity to talk about it anyway... as long as it wasn't in front of her. What did that say about me? What can I do differently?

I need to take note from a friend, whose husband does the same thing. She doesn't care about what others or he thinks. Neither should I! From this moment forward, I will not let others put me in a corner. I didn't like it. Not sure what it will mean for my relationship with my wife or others but I need to succeed.
