Reflections on Writing

“If you don't have time to read, you don't have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that.”
― Stephen King

As I reflect on writing, I realized how valuable reading 15 minutes a day is for not only finishing my dissertation but also writing a novel or how-to book. This quote by Steven King reinforces the value of sitting and reading. I realized that 15 minutes a day of reading for pleasure has made getting my dissertation written. It has uncluttered my mind for the task at hand.

I have been working on my revisions for chapter 2 of my dissertation and I find myself distracted by my yearning to write fiction. However, I have to force those desires down for a while. My goal over the next 27 days is to find a way to do both while finding a job or redesigning a career. I feel the mental distractions are painful. I will find a balance.

Happy and Grateful Statement (Sticking with this for now)

I am happy and grateful that I am a Diamond consultant for Organo Gold coffee because I am able to be a good husband, father, son, brother, mentor, and author because I am able to have the freedom and time to write books and articles that entertain and inspire my readers in order to create positive social change.

Dig Deep and Never Give Up

Years ago I heard a speaker at a convention for SkillsUSA, an organization dedicated to help high school students succeed in their vocation. Ian Lawton, in his article "Keep Hoping No Matter What", tweeted the same montra "dig deep and never give up." Many years ago when I had a life crisis, I lost my business and couldn't get my son a Christmas present. It wouldn't have been so bad if he had several things he asked Santa for but he only asked for one thing. Of course it was a popular and became hard to find. I had read many self-help books in the past one being "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill and I decided to put them all down and leap into action. Playing credit card roulette, I bought the last one in the city of Chicago in a Montgomery Wards store going out of business sale.

Happy and Grateful

Today is Thanksgiving in America and a day to say what you are thankful for. It is very tough to even think about happiness and thankfulness I am when the bills are coming due and I have no idea how I am going to pay them. So I'm going to dig a little deeper and see what I find. Of course the first thing that comes to mind is my wife and son who will stick by me no matter what. This actually brings a tear to my eyes because I have often wondered if I was deserving of such love. My mom and 3 brothers are there too. Even though we all have our own struggles, we support each other. Then there is my Walden University family. My dissertation chair and mentor Dr. Walter McCollum, my dissertation Cohort group, and Alumni, who have supported and encouraged me through the arduous task of writing not only my dissertation but also my KAMs. Then there is my extended family, even though I do not reach out to them often, are there too. I also have a new family of network marketers who seek to help each other succeed in our Organo Gold coffee businesses. Finally, I am grateful that I have the ability to think and write, without it I would not be able to express my thoughts and ideas or finish my dissertation.

Happy and Grateful Statement (always a work in progress)

I am happy and grateful that I am a Diamond consultant for Organo Gold coffee because I am able to be a good husband, father, son, brother, mentor, and author because I am able to have the freedom and time to write by entertaining and inspiring my readers so that I can create positive social change.

My Big Why

Sometimes you have to have a breakdown before you have a breakthrough. Yesterday was the breakdown when I hit rock bottom. Then my dear friend and one of many mentors, Dr. Latrice Walker, texted me this 30 day transformation challenge. The challenge was inspired by Network Marketing Guru Jerry Clark.

Today begins a new day of my inner transformation starting with my big why. First, I want to be a good provider and inspiration for my family.  Second, I want the freedom to travel and surround myself with like-minded friends. Third, I want the freedom and money to write novels that entertain and inspire. Fourth, I want to finish my Ph.D. so that I can pass on the knowledge I have acquired. Finally, I want to make a difference in the world and be an instrument for positive social change. My goal is to transform my life so I can take care of all my big whys'.

Day #1:

Read 15 mins /Day: I actually read more. I started with a newly acquired Kindle book
How to Blog a Book: Write, Publish, and Promote Your Work One Post at a Time and Ready, Set, Novel!: A Workbook

Listen to PD Audio: Murphy's Committee by Jerry Clark

Drank water & took my Organo Gold Capsules

Exercise: I'm counting cleaning my office as exercise, so back off.
